Ok, Ok, I said I was done.
I know I posted on my journal that I was done with suitmaking, but the fact is I've been out of work for 4 months and I'm getting desperate. All I have is a ton of fur I've bought over the past few years and lots of time, so I'm just trying to scrape up some rent money.

I am pretty happy with the way this one turned out (though the ears could be a tad bigger).
The full suit is complete, but my mate who volunteered to be photographer was sick today, so the rest of it will be posted tomorrow hopefully.

Hai, Guys! Lookee What I Made! :D (First Fursuit, and an Introduction)
So, I've been lurking here while I've been working on my first fursuit. I just want y'all to know, this place has been so incredibly helpful. I thought the time was right to make my first post here. Meet......er.......unnamed badly dressed canine thing? ^ ^;; (I need fursuitting clothes XP)

    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2mydwrd&s=4

(Large image, so there's a link. Don't want to go breaking rules in my first post!)

So, this is my first attempt at a costume of any sort, let alone something as complex as a fursuit. I've watched a friend make two heads before I tried one, and I did my homework. Nevertheless, I know there are some major things wrong with her, like the big ole boxy head, for instance. From that, I learned fur really DOES hide everything. ^ ^ I also learned how NOT to do a tail. I swear, the pattern didn't look that huge...or lumpy. D; It IS lumpy and lopsided (and HUGE), though you can't see it well in the picture. On the positive side, I got a functioning jaw, some decent paws (complete with claws, but no pads), a detailed mouth and only one 'oopsie' on the fur grain. I could've done worse.   ^ ^

So, after that wall o text, I want to know: what do you guys think? I don't plan on revamping it, but I want to know what I could do better next time.  ('Next time' happens to be a tuxedo cat I have in the planning stages. I want to try something different...so I'm aiming for a semi-realistic feline, with a balaclava base, as opposed to the plastic mesh you see above. ^ ^)

Geez, sorry that's so long... D': I promise I'll condense my future posts. XD

    Rumor no more
For EA, "Spore" is expected to open up a new revenue stream built on millions of micro-transactions from players buying virtual clothes and accessories for their creatures. Those types of small purchases are the fastest growing revenue generators in online gaming, analysts say.

    Ok,

Seeing that my last post was deleted, maybe if i reword the question it wont be tagged as "does not belong here"

I sat down, and started trying to put what I want my fursuit to look like on to paper... I
discovered something wonderful!! I cannot draw, when I do.. it looks like
a horrid. I cannot take the picture in my own head and put it on paper.
*sighs* Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you work around it? Build as you see the picture in the head, try to find an artist? Is concept art really a needed thing?

    *hugs"

This week in the National Enquirer: Elementary School in Temporal Flux!
Here is the school I went to as a kid, Longfellow Elementary. The building was recently torn down and replaced with a bigger building nearby. As you can see, there's a bit of a time warp; at the bottom of the image, you can see the old building simultaneously before and after being demolished, and at the top you can see the new building simultaneously before and after being erected.

(See all those white-roofed huts on the left side of the image? They're temporary buildings that had to be set up as the school's enrollment got larger and larger over the years, and they're the reason a bigger building was eventually built.)

    2nd fullsuit and trying ears...
It's been awhile since I've posted, but I pretty much lurk everyday...

I finally finished (somewhat) my second fullsuit of Hyen K'yena (I know, imaginative name =p I was like... 10 when made her up originally)... a hyena.

It's my third head, second follow-me attempt... but in putting her eyes TOO far back (it was completely fine looking until I furred her, o_O), she often appears as if she has none... personally, it's grown on me that way, she's supposed to be kinda scary (scary, but has an infinity for soft, cute things). And it's great for Halloween =p Anyway. Now that I look at it, I need more spots, and I'm going to get another blue sharpie to fill in her leg ring-tatt (it's supposed to be more tribal-like) so... but I can't wait to show her off, anyway...

If I was to fix her eyes, I'd probably just make a whole new head and go from scratch. I'm fairly attached to her looks, deep eyes and all.

I keep forgetting to add her skirt... but oh well.
And I couldn't zipper passed my shoulderblades -_- So it's a bit open... but I wear an old shirt underneath so it doesn't matter. I need to get something underarmor for halloween and such when prolonged wearing o_O

I also recently made a pair of ears and a tail for a renn faire - Sterling Forest - (if someone asked, I told them I was an 'Animal Sprite' =p) using Theassassinox's elastic headband method. And boy am I glad it worked and painless to wear o_O My thanks to you! xD

    MFM.....lemurrrrrs and murrrrkats

Had a great time as always, MFM is always one of my favorite cons.
I think I OD'd on sour patch kids with [info]blazerraccoon  on the way up.
Was great to see everyone and I looooove our annual trip to Corky's BBQ.
    I also love molesting [info]bjbuttons
Highlight of the weekend had to be swapping fursuits with the very talented  [info]silver_raccoon
He let me wear  tungsten  and  Oz   (he made both suits) and I let him wear Pink Panther (tight squeeze!) and Greifer
He IS open for fursuit commissions and you can reach him at silverraccoon at gmail
I also let  [info]khyle   wear Greifer because his suit was lost in the mail (but later found) So if you saw Greifer wearing a red G string and poi spinning that would have been HIM. I will have to see if I have good video of that.
Made a new friend [info]stathgar    .....welcome to my LJ!
And two pig pawz up to  [info]razzy6   for ALWAYS being in fursuit and playing in the garden court anytime I looked out there.
It was his first con and first time suiting. I read his con report and he reminds me a lot of ....... ME after my first con.
    Razz you ROCK!
Got to play with lotsa kids as always including DJ, Fidget and Gabriel ( [info]d_l_leonine   's cub)
Thanx [info]tygercowboy   and the gang for a great con !

    OK that's about it.....

    Glue Gun Woes
I've been using a two-temp (low and high) glue gun for most of my projects without incident.  I use the short, multi-temp sticks with them.  Recently, my first gun began to crap out on me - it wouldn't grip the sticks (same sticks!) or be able to melt them efficiently.  Now, it was over a year old and a cheapie ($10, maybe) so I chalked that up to just having been worn out.

So I go shopping for a new gun, and decided to get an updated version of the same model (AdTech 2 Temp).  On the packaging, it recommends the longer, yet still multi-temp sticks, so that's what I'm currently using.  The gun worked great at first, but now I am having the same problem as the first gun - it wont grip the sticks or melt them efficiently - and I have the setting on high!

The cord detaches for cordless use, and is a bit loose, but I keep it attached at all operating times.  I follow the company's suggested use times (not on more more than an hour at a time) and I just can't figure out for the life of me what the problem is.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?  Is there a way to fix this or should I just suck it up and invest in a more expensive, more heavy duty gun?

EDIT:  I pulled the remnant stick outta the barrel and inserted another, new stick.  Instant fix!  I'd still like to hear ya'lls opinion on dinky little glue guns vs. industrial glue guns. <3

The Days Are Just PACKED (*)
    Man. What a busy week!

I started work on Bo Steeple last weekend. Didn't do much yet, but what I've don you can see here.

But what really made it busy is that RainFurrest is coming up in only three weeks. Things were mostly coming together, other than a few details... until I was handed the Masquerade to take care of. So this week has been taken up by lots of emails as I work to get that squared away. Along with getting things ready for the fursuit lounge and the Fursuit Games, it's kept me on my toes.

Let me put it this way: I made a list on Tuesday of everything I had to do this week. That included stuff for my personal life, too, I admit. Still, there were over 30 chores that needed checking off. Technically, I've done about half of them so far. A touch less, really.

Luckily, most of the rest are fairly easy tasks. Still, I have (counts) 18 things left to do. Most of which will have to be done tomorrow.

    Busy buy busy...

    Sponsoring Membership Available
Due to the downturn in the Florida economy and shifts at work as a result, I won't be able to attend FC 2009. Therefore, I'm offering my already paid for Sponsoring Membership.

I'd appreciate $40-$45 for it, but I'm not about to play "dog in a manger" about it; it won't do me any good this year, certainly.

    "The Office" Comparison
Thanks to Netflix I have now watched both seasons of the original "The Office" which aired on the BBC. I think the old adage that the Americans and the British are a peoples separated by a common language. Some of the jokes just didn't translate very well and a lot of the dialog seemed to be mumbled at a fast rate. I also think that the overall flow of culture seems to be more towards England as opposed to the opposite direction, so that perhaps our cultural references would understood there, but their cultural references would be lost to American audiences. Overall it was a funny series that I enjoyed, however I much prefer the American version. The US cast may be a little more over-the-top, but that just adds to the humor. Many of the secondary characters also get developed much better in the US version, so there's a little more depth.

The one thing the British version had going for it was that it was essentially R-rated while the US version is pretty much restricted to the PG-13 limit. There were many funny jokes related to dildos and giant inflatable cocks that will never translate to American television (stupid censors!). Language was also kicked up a notch.

So I still have to catch up with season 4 of the American version before season 5 soon starts on NBC. The British version only lasted 2 years sadly (with a special episode as a 3rd season). It seemed that they were just hitting their stride when the show was canceled. All I know is that as bad as my boss is, I'm very glad that I don't have a Michael Scott or a David Brent supervising me.

    Updated eyes.
I decided this morning to cut one of the loops in half, and they work great!

I need to do some small retouches on the left eye (not noticeable in the photos), but here are the installed eyes.

They are 1/2" deep, two sections of 3 1/2" fun foam, two sections of 1/8" fun foam, reinforced with plastic mesh. The eye lashes that would cover the top aren't cut out yet.

Photos, plus one showing the opening. )

If you wish to use the measurements, do not glue between the foam pieces. Only glue them to the mesh, but make sure they're up against the neighboring pieces. The warp will squish them together.

    Lobo Roo Ready?
Okay, I've re-shaped the muzzle, added a temporary ear and shoved the nose in place. An eyebrow ridge has also been added.

Once I get the finalized eyes and add an eyebrow ridge to the other side I want to start furring. Think it's ready for it?

    Almost ready for furring? )

Labour Day Lyacon n I rode the bikes out to Bridesville (4200ft elevation) and spent a few days camping up with the boys. Everyone had a blast, though the kettle river was too cold for anything more than a quick swim and wash! Scary eyes in he dark, making smoptarts (poptart based smores) and OMG cooking was a lot of fun. Sneaking up on our campmates under the cover of darkness with a handful of firecrackers was worth getting covered in a million tiny burrs :D

Pic is from a lake P-Dawg's aunt recommended. The enduro handled the roads just fine. Working on drifting my back tire more and more, which is daunting on such a heavy bike with 80/20 tires, and then came the cows...

I really should start GPS tagging my photos :D
